University of Washington's D Center invites you to join us on Feb 28th to view an award-winning documentary film, BEING MICHELLE and a post-screening panel discussion with us. The doors open at 5:30pm and the film starts at 6pm. The event will also be live-streamed for registered guests.

BEING MICHELLE is a feature-length documentary film about a deaf woman with autism who survived incarceration and abuse, and now uses her artwork to depict the trauma she survived and heal from her past.

The film is 80 minutes long, followed with an intermission and a panel discussion with BEING MICHELLE team members Dr. Mei Kennedy, Dr. Deb Guthmann and other community leaders.

The event will be primarily presented in American Sign Language. The film will be in ASL, voiced and also open captioned. There will be a team of ASL interpreters available to mitigate linguistic and cultural intersectionalities throughout the evening. Please send any further access requests to D Center at dcenter@uw.edu or fill out the form here by February 9th, 2024.

This event is open to the public at no charge and light refreshments will be provided. If traveling by vehicle, a parking code will be sent to you for free parking at either Padelford Garage or Central Plaza Garage before the event.

If you have any further questions, please contact D Center at dcenter@uw.edu, (206) 774-7680 VP or stop by at HUB 327.
