I am an Associate Teaching Professor in the School of Nursing and Health Studies and the First Year Discovery Core Program at the University of Washington, Bothell. My scholarship and teaching interests meet at the intersection of Nursing, Critical Disability Studies, and Media Studies. My teaching and pedagogy embraces a Critical Disability Studies standpoint that values the embodied knowledge of disabled people and places disability at the center of discussions regarding difference, identity, justice, and pedagogy to create new possibilities for the alignment of healthcare professionals with these discussions. Since 2012, I have worked with the Disability Studies Program to engage UWB students with the interdisciplinary scholarship taking place in Critical Disability Studies and to insure participation at the Pacific and Western Disability Studies Symposium which seeks to make disability public through arts, scholarship, and activism.
