Budget and Administrative Updates
- Director transition update
- Heather Evans to serve as Interim Director for 2 years or until a program review is completed (whichever comes first)
- Joanne Woiak to continue as Associate Director
- Recap meeting with Dean Woody (Heather E): presented Dean Woody with list of current program needs, milestones the program must meet to secure additional funding, and discussed options for program review
- Request for additional academic advising and fiscal admin support: Dean Woody will compile information about existing support for other, comparable units, to determine if inequities in our admin support; if there are inequities this will be resolved immediately, if we are simply as strained as other units we are unlikely to receive additional support
- Updating MOU with LSJ: Dean Woody will share data she gathers for the above item and will schedule a conversation between units to discuss MOU
- Need for faculty compensation / incentives to engage in DSP service on top of home unit service
- Discussed ways to make DSP service work more legible to home units, such as a letter from the Dean to home unit Chairs outlining DSP service commitments for each faculty member each year
- Need to raise visibility of DSP in the college so that home units understand DSP is a stand alone academic unit, such as representation from DSP on promotion committees, etc.
- Program review needed to demonstrate service, teaching, and research being conducted in DSP
- Physical resources
- Heather E. and Joanne to submit memo to Dean Woody outlining needs regarding physical space, technology, equipment, storage needs
- Additional instructional budget
- All instructional support levels are driven by undergraduate enrollments; does not include Independent Study credits
- Need to figure out how to make DS course enrollment clear in UW system
- Joanne to share last few years of enrollment data with Dean Woody
- Budget update:
- Increased instructor salaries for part time lecturers to $10,000 per class
- Preparation for 2023-24 program review
- Need to decide: do we want we want program review conducted by reviewers internal to UW (comparing DSP to other CAS units) or external to UW (comparing DSP to other Disability Studies programs/depts. elsewhere)?
- Best way to compile faculty reports?
- Share reports submitted to home depts. in June 2023?
