"The UW Disability and D/deaf Cultural Center (D Center) celebrated their 10th anniversary on campus this school year. While the center has celebrated accomplishments and faced challenges over the past decade, the intention of the center remains constant: cultivating a community of Disability and D/deaf pride on campus. When the D Center opened at UW in 2013, it was only the second center of its kind. Advocacy for the creation of the center was headed by the Student Disability Commission, whose president at the time, Ann Luetzow, secured the funding required. They pushed relentlessly for nearly two years before the Center was finally approved and established."
