My current research is looking at present day disability rhetoric in the media, particularly relating to deafness, d/Deaf education, and Deaf culture. My past research focused on 20th century American writers, such as Dalton Trumbo, Katherine Anne Porter, Eudora Welty, Eugene O’Neill, and Mary Austin, who resisted or complicated the endorsement of popular rehabilitation, eugenic, and institutionalization ideologies and discourses about people with disabilities during that time. My pedagogy experience includes teaching a variety of courses in Anthropology, English, and Disability Studies. In keeping with my interest in Disability Studies, I am currently teaching my second-level writing courses at Shoreline Community College through a Disability Studies’ lens.
