Job DescriptionWe are seeking a temporary, hourly student worker to assist with a School of Medicine CLIME small grant project focused on disability allyship. The purpose of this project is to engage with disabled and d/Deaf students, faculty, and staff on UW campus to understand their experiences with allyship, ableism and/or audism, and healthcare services. The project will co-create a user-centered disability allyship training curriculum for use with School of Medicine faculty, staff, and students. We aim to foreground the lived experience of our disabled and d/Deaf UW community to contribute to a more inclusive campus culture and consider disability and d/Deafness within broader contexts of equity and diversity initiatives.
Job responsibilitiesDuties include (but are not limited to) (1) Formatting transcripts and preparing them for coding; (2) assistance with transcription; (3) administrative support for scheduling interviews and focus groups; (4) serving as the primary contact for study participants; (5) providing accessibility support and assisting with logistics (i.e. arranging captioning or ASL interpreters as needed); (6) scheduling meetings among research team; (7) assisting with project materials and organization. Job responsibilities may be completed remotely.
Required QualificationsCandidates must be a current UW part-time or full-time student. Candidates should have familiarity with disability studies and/or disability justice content and will need consistent and reliable internet access. Candidates will have familiarity with computing and organizational programs (i.e. Microsoft Office 365).
Preferred QualificationsUnderstanding of accessibility supports, access to personal computer, completion of some Disability Studies coursework, and strong communication skills are preferred. Those with lived experience of disability and d/Deafness are strongly encouraged to apply.
Approximate beginning and end dateEarly August to mid-December, 2020.
Approximate time commitment6-10 hours per week
Hourly Rate$16.40/hr
