CW: Research on sexual assault

Abstract:

Over the past 10 years, in response to data indicating that as many as 1 in 5 undergraduate students have experienced sexual assault on college campuses across the United States, there have been substantial efforts made to improve prevention and response. But much of those efforts have left out students with disabilities, even though these students are at far greater risk of sexual violence than non-disabled students.

Researchers Christine Lew, Alizay Sajjad, and Faculty advisor Megan McCloskey conducted a study in 2021 to assess the accessibility and inclusiveness of the University of Washington’s campus sexual assault prevention and response efforts and highlight where prevention and response mechanisms must be made more accessible and inclusive. Come join us during your lunch breaks (May 20th, 12-1pm) to learn more about the results of the study, and understand how we can all work towards a safer, more accessible campus for students with disabilities.

This webinar is a collaboration between the researchers, UW Disability Studies Program, and the ASUW Student Disability Commission.  The research was supported by a DSP Harlan Hahn Endowment Fund grant.
